Headword |
ཉ་ལོག ། nya log |
Translation |
(lit.) ”reversed nya” |
Description |
There is no good attestation for the expression nya log, as a name of the avagraha sign in Tibetan script. In the ninth chapter of the sKu gsung thugs rdo rje rtsa ba thams cad rdzogs pa’i rgyud, a Tantric scripture from the rNying ma rgyud ’bum, we do find a line that reads: nya log ye shes ye nas med ||. But this nya log seems to have nothing to do with the avagraha because each of the reversed vowel signs and and consonant letters are used as signs/symbols to signify certain ideas. One suspects that the word nya log in the sense of the avagraha sign is a recent neologism. |
