Translation

white (i.e., plain) edition

Description

A plain edition of a text or textual corpus is called skya bris ma, skya bris can, or simply skya bris, which may be translated as “white/gray edition.” Such an edition is contrasted with a deluxe edition, which would mostly be either a “gold(en) edition” (gser bris ma), or, a “silver edition” (dngul bris ma). It appears that skya bris can also refer to charcoal sketch of a drawing/painting as the expression tshon med skya bris (colorless plain drawing suggests. See the Tshig mdzod chen mo (s.v. tshon med skya bris): tshon ma btang gong du sol pir gyis bris pa’i ri mo |.
